Use a SIM card from your carrier

If you set up a cellular data plan at your local carrier, then the SIM card will be activated. Just open the SIM-card tray and insert the SIM card from your carrier.

If you can't connect to cellular data, go to Settings > Cellular Data and make sure that cellular data is on.

Use an eSIM, embedded Apple SIM, or Apple SIM

You can set up a plan on your iPad, scan a QR code, or use your carrier's iPad app. Learn how your iPad connects to cellular data. Also, you can find out which iPad model you have.

Set up a plan on your iPad

You can set up a plan with a participating carrier worldwide.

  1. If you're setting up your first plan on your iPad, go to Settings > Cellular Data > Set Up Cellular Data. If you're setting up another plan on your iPad, go to Settings > Cellular Data > Add a New Plan.
  2. Choose a carrier. If you don’t see your preferred carrier, contact them for a SIM card or an eSIM.* If you still need help, learn what to do.
